This machine came to me in pretty rough shape (Some unkind person threw a coat of black paint all over it, to hide the rust and damages - as evidenced by the needle bar having black paint in the areas not covered by the machine).

The extra coat of black paint not only hides imperfections from me - like the crack, but it just makes one more layer of paint to remove, as well as making it a lot harder to disassemble. The tolerances are very tight on the needle bars, and drive shafts, etc, so that thin layer of paint has to come off, while still assembled, just so I can take it apart. Grrr!

Some pieces were fabricated to allow for a thread holder, & a new gear was modified to fit, then used to replace the missing gear on the bottom. I never had a needle for it, and some of these really old machines use special needles, that are hard to come by, even if you know what they used. I had no idea with this one, as there was nothing to go by.

There's a hairline crack in one small area, on the back of the sewing plate, which can not expand any further. It is on the back side of the needle plate hole, to the back scallop, & is practically invisible if you don't know where it is.
